A conductor was shot dead at the Amritsar bus stand on Monday after a heated dispute between staff members of two private buses over picking up passengers. The victim, identified as Makhan Singh of Kahlon Bus Service, was hit by four bullets during the altercation.
Eyewitnesses said the clash between the bus crews continued for several minutes before one of the employees pulled out a gun and opened fire. Makhan Singh collapsed instantly. He was rushed to a private hospital but was declared dead.
The firing created panic at the busy terminal, forcing passengers to flee for safety. Police reached the spot and recovered six empty bullet shells. CCTV footage from nearby cameras is being scanned for clues.
ACP Gagandeep Singh confirmed that the dispute stemmed from bus timings and picking passengers first. The accused employee escaped after the shooting. A search operation is underway, and further investigation is in progress.
