Punjab DIG Held in Graft Case; Crores in Cash and Luxury Items Seized
In a major crackdown on corruption, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Punjab Police on charges of graft. During raids conducted at multiple locations, the agency recovered ₹5 crore in cash, approximately 1.5 kg of gold jewellery, keys to two high-end vehicles—a Mercedes and an Audi—22 luxury watches, and several bank locker keys. Additionally, 40 litres of imported liquor were seized, raising further questions about the officer’s lavish lifestyle. The operation was launched following allegations of bribery and misuse of official position. The CBI is now probing the source of the seized wealth and whether it is linked to wider networks of corruption. This arrest marks a significant step in the agency’s efforts to curb corruption within the police force and uphold accountability among senior officials. Further investigations are underway.
