Punjab MLA Manjinder Singh Challenges Conviction in High Court

Punjab MLA Manjinder Singh conviction appeal

Punjab MLA Manjinder Singh has challenged his conviction in the Punjab and Haryana High Court. The Tarn Taran court had sentenced the AAP legislator to four years of rigorous imprisonment under IPC and the SC/ST Act.

In his plea, Manjinder Singh asked the court to suspend his conviction and sentence. He argued that his constituency is flood-affected and he must continue relief work without interruption.

Justice Tribhuvan Dahiya heard the case. The MLA said the trial court ignored major flaws in the prosecution’s story. He claimed this led to injustice.

Singh also pointed out that he had already spent more than seven months in jail during the trial. He added that the appeal may not be heard soon, so suspension of the sentence is necessary.

The case is based on a woman’s complaint. She alleged that Manjinder Singh and others misbehaved with her at her cousin’s wedding and later assaulted her family.
