Punjab Rainfall Relief: IMD Forecast Brings Decline in Heavy Showers Across North India

Cloudy sky with light showers in Punjab after IMD forecast of declining rainfall

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has shared positive news for residents of Punjab and North India. After several days of heavy rainfall, stormy winds, and waterlogging, the intensity of monsoon showers is finally decreasing.

On Friday, September 5, 2025, most regions in Punjab reported cloudy conditions with some sunshine breaking through. Daytime temperatures are expected to rise to around 33°C, with nights remaining relatively cooler at 25°C. According to the IMD, the heaviest phase of this rainfall spell is now behind us.

For the next few days, only light to moderate rainfall is likely in Punjab and surrounding states. Isolated pockets such as Ludhiana, Bathinda, Pathankot, Mansa, and Sangrur may still witness short heavy spells, but the widespread intense showers that caused disruption earlier this week are not expected to return.

From September 6 to 8, scattered showers will occur at intervals, keeping the weather cloudy but manageable. On September 9, some isolated regions may see stronger downpours. By September 10 onwards, the IMD predicts more sunshine and a gradual rise in temperatures, signaling a calmer phase of the monsoon season.

This weather change is being welcomed by residents and farmers alike. The reduction in rainfall will help authorities assess damages, carry out repair work, and improve road and transport facilities. Farmers, who were concerned about crop damage, are also expected to benefit from this much-needed pause in heavy showers.

Overall, Punjab and North India are moving into a more stable weather pattern, bringing relief to millions of people after a tense period of relentless rainfall.
