Punjab Revises Flood Damage Demand, Lowers Total to Rs 12,905 Crore
Punjab government has revised its flood damage claim, trimming the total demand by Rs 384 crore to Rs 12,905 crore. The adjustment follows detailed assessments by various departments in the aftermath of recent floods that severely impacted the state.
The Rural Development Department reported damage worth Rs 3,554 crore, a significant reduction from the earlier estimate of Rs 5,043 crore. This revision reflects a more accurate evaluation of losses to rural infrastructure, agriculture, and related assets.
Conversely, the Revenue Department raised its damage demand to Rs 2,782 crore, indicating an upward adjustment in reported losses under its purview. The combined revisions underscore the complexities involved in assessing flood damage across multiple sectors.
The state government is expected to submit the revised demand to the Centre, seeking financial aid for rehabilitation and reconstruction. Officials emphasize the need for timely support to restore affected communities and infrastructure.
