Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has announced a massive road infrastructure plan, confirming that 44,920 km of roads will be built across the state within a year at a cost of ₹16,209 crore. Of this, work on 19,373 km of rural link roads worth ₹4,092 crore is already underway under Phase 1.

In a press briefing on Saturday, the CM revealed Phase 2, which includes the construction of an additional 25,547 km of roads. He said the government aims to complete all works by the end of next year, ensuring world-class quality standards, safety norms and a mandatory five-year maintenance clause in every project. Many roads damaged during this year’s floods are also being rebuilt.

Mann issued a strict warning to contractors, stating that the government will not tolerate corruption or commission demands. He recalled his meeting at Tagore Theatre where contractors were told clearly that no official should seek commission and any malpractice would invite strict action. “Public money cannot be wasted. Previous governments thrived on commission culture, but not under AAP,” he said.
