The Punjabi-origin crime blogger arrested in a major drug kingpin crackdown has shocked law enforcement agencies across the US and Canada. Officials confirmed that the Punjabi-origin crime blogger arrested is Gursewak Singh Bal, 31, a Mississauga-based co-founder of the website Dirty Newz. Authorities linked him to an international narcotics empire allegedly run by former Olympic snowboarder Ryan James Wedding.
Bal faces serious allegations of helping expose a protected witness, Jonathan Acebedo-Garcia, who was later killed in Medellín, Colombia. Investigators say Bal accepted $10,000 to stop posting about the drug network and then posted the witness’s photograph online so hired killers could track him.
Police arrested Bal on November 19 during coordinated raids under “Operation Giant Slalom,” a joint FBI–RCMP operation targeting Wedding’s cocaine smuggling network. Officers also detained Wedding’s lawyer and several other Canadian associates.
The U.S. now seeks Bal’s extradition on charges of racketeering, drug trafficking, and conspiracy to commit murder. Federal documents reveal that he faces life imprisonment if a court convicts him. Authorities have seized his “Dirty Newz” website as part of the investigation.
Wedding, described as “extremely violent and extremely wealthy,” remains on the run in Mexico, reportedly protected by Sinaloa Cartel operatives. The U.S. has raised the reward for his capture to $15 million.
