Rajasthan Land Row Sparks: Congress Alleges BJP Office on Cremation Ground

The Rajasthan Assembly witnessed sharp tension on Wednesday after Congress MLA Ghanshyam Mehar raised serious allegations over land allocation in Karauli. He moved an adjournment motion and accused the state government of preparing to allot cremation and graveyard land to the BJP.

Mehar claimed the disputed land lies opposite the Karauli district collectorate. He said the master plan clearly reserves the land for a cremation ground and graveyard. He alleged the government is changing land use to benefit a political party.

During the House proceedings, Mehar waved a copy of a municipal advertisement. He said the advertisement itself confirms the land’s original purpose under the master plan. He questioned how authorities could ignore planning rules for such prime land.

Outside the Assembly, Mehar directly attacked the BJP. He claimed nearly three bighas of land is being prepared for a BJP office. He said cremation and burial land should never face commercial or political use. He added that building an office there reflects poor intent.

Mehar alleged the government is misusing the term “institutional allotment” to justify the move. He demanded immediate intervention and cancellation of the process.

The issue is likely to trigger protests beyond the Assembly. The government has not yet issued a detailed response.
