A small village in Rajasthan’s Baran district has become a symbol of unity and shared traditions, earning the title of “Mini Jerusalem.” Piplod village, located about 25 kilometres from the district headquarters in Atru tehsil, has celebrated Christmas collectively for over 104 years.

In this village, Christmas is not limited to one faith. People from all religions join the celebrations, turning the festival into a community event. Due to the significant Christian population, Piplod is widely known as Rajasthan’s Mini Jerusalem. Residents say the tradition reflects harmony and mutual respect among communities.

The village was established in 1904 during British rule by Christian missionaries, who chose the area for its fertile land and water availability. The historic Jungle Mangal Mandli CNI Church, built in 1904, remains the district’s oldest church. Renovations took place in 1931 and again between 1967 and 1968.

Festivities begin several days before Christmas with sports and cultural programmes. On December 25 and 26, a large fair is organised. Members of Sahariya, Bairwa, Gurjar, Meena, and Khati communities participate actively. Families return from across India and abroad to celebrate together.

Homes are cleaned, walls are coated with mud, and colourful lights decorate the village. Locals say Christmas here feels like Diwali, filled with joy, peace, and shared traditions that strengthen social bonds.
