Red Alert Issued as Cyclone Ditwah Nears Tamil Nadu Coast

With Cyclone Ditwah moving steadily closer to the Tamil Nadu coast, a red alert has been issued for several coastal districts on November 29. The India Meteorological Department has forecast extremely heavy rainfall — above 21 cm at one or two locations — in Cuddalore, Mayiladuthurai, Villupuram and Chengalpattu, as well as in Puducherry.
The cyclone, intensifying over the southwest Bay of Bengal, is expected to bring strong winds, rough sea conditions and intense downpours across the region. Authorities have urged fishermen to stay ashore and advised residents in low-lying areas to be prepared for potential flooding.
Disaster response teams have been placed on standby, and district administrations are coordinating with the State government to ensure evacuation plans, relief centres and emergency services are ready. As the storm approaches, officials have called for heightened public caution and adherence to safety advisories to minimise risks and ensure timely response.
