Red Fort blast accused Wani has been sent to seven days of NIA custody by a Delhi court on Thursday. The agency produced Jasir Bilal Wani before the court as his earlier 10-day custody, granted on November 18, came to an end. Principal Sessions and District Judge Anju Bajaj Chandna had ordered the previous custody.
Wani, a resident of Qazigund in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag district, was arrested in Srinagar on November 17. Investigators say he allegedly offered technical support for terror activities. They claim he modified drones and attempted to design rockets ahead of the November 10 Red Fort blast. According to NIA officials, these activities formed a key part of the larger conspiracy.
Meanwhile, another accused linked to the case was sent to NIA custody on Wednesday. The Patiala House Court remanded Soyab, a resident of Faridabad, to 10 days of custody. The agency alleges that he provided shelter to the suspected Red Fort bomber, Umar-un Nabi.
In a separate terror-related development, Jammu Police arrested a 19-year-old youth on Thursday. The accused, originally from Reasi district and now living in Jammu’s Bathindi area, was held in connection with an FIR under Section 113(3) of the BNS, which deals with terrorist activity. Police said initial investigations show that the youth had been radicalised online. They added that he was allegedly planning to carry out a terror attack.
Officials stated that further investigation is under way in both cases as agencies attempt to uncover wider networks connected to the suspects.
