A reign of terror by a bloodthirsty jackal in Katihar shook villagers. The jackal attacked an elderly couple Wednesday evening while they were cutting grass near their field.
The attack left 60‑year‑old Ramni Devi seriously injured. Villagers rushed her to the local health centre, and then she was sent to a bigger hospital. She later died from her wounds. Her husband, 65‑year‑old Dhanna Singh, ran away during the attack and is still missing. Villagers are searching for him.
People now avoid going to fields alone. Some carry sticks and search nearby areas, fearing the jackal may still roam there. Police have been informed and are investigating, but they have not found the animal yet.
