The Bihar elections have taken a dramatic turn as the RJD candidate Shweta Suman from Mohania has lost her nomination. This marks the second major setback for the Grand Alliance after the VIP candidate’s nomination from Supauli was also cancelled. The Election Commission rejected RJD candidate Shweta Suman’s papers following objections over her caste certificate.
Shweta, a candidate from Lalu Prasad Yadav and Tejashwi Yadav’s party, was disqualified on Wednesday. The BJP had filed a complaint, arguing she was not a native of Bihar and listed her previous address as Uttar Pradesh. BJP leader Vidyanchal Rai stated that only Bihar natives can contest from Scheduled Caste-reserved seats.
Shweta Suman, however, insists she has lived in Bihar for the last twenty years and called the allegations false. She broke down in front of the media, accusing the BJP of conspiracy. The Grand Alliance now faces an uphill battle, having lost two key seats before polling even begins.
