In the ongoing Bihar elections, the RJD has strongly raised the Mithila turban issue, turning it into an emotional and cultural debate. The party said the turban is not just a piece of cloth but a proud symbol of Mithila’s honor, culture, and identity. RJD leaders took to social media, expressing that disrespecting the turban hurts the dignity of the entire community.
The controversy began after a rally where BJP’s Alinagar candidate and folk singer Maithili Thakur appeared wearing a turban. RJD accused BJP MLA Ketki Singh and Thakur of showing disregard for Mithila traditions. The Mithila turban issue soon went viral, with videos of Thakur wearing the turban while eating makhana spreading widely online.
According to RJD, the turban carries the same respect as a king’s crown. Dismissing it as inferior to others insults the entire Mithila culture. The party appealed to all to maintain the dignity of this traditional symbol, which represents self-respect, heritage, and pride.
