Rohini Acharya, daughter of RJD chief and Bihar’s veteran leader Lalu Prasad Yadav, announced her decision to quit politics on Saturday, a day after the Mahagathbandhan suffered a major defeat in the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections. In an emotional post on X, Acharya declared that she is “disowning” her family and stepping away from political life entirely.
Her post read, “I’m quitting politics and I’m disowning my family… This is what Sanjay Yadav and Rameez had asked me to do… and I’m taking all the blame’s.” The message has sparked widespread speculation about internal conflicts within the RJD camp, especially after a disappointing performance that saw the party lose significant ground to the NDA.
Acharya had been actively participating in campaign activities alongside her brother and former Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav. Her abrupt withdrawal from politics marks a significant moment for the RJD, which is already grappling with internal discontent and electoral setbacks.
The development adds to the turbulence within the Mahagathbandhan, which has been searching for answers after the electorate decisively shifted towards the NDA. Political observers believe Acharya’s announcement signals deeper fractures within the party’s leadership structure.
