YSRCP leader Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy has reiterated that Amaravati remains the functional capital, pointing out that the existing Secretariat and Assembly buildings are sufficient for governance. He argued that the previous government had already operated effectively from Amaravati, and there was no immediate need for constructing new structures.
Sajjala added that while former CM Jagan Mohan Reddy had plans to administer from Visakhapatnam , elections prevented that shift. He maintained that if YSRCP had returned to power, both Visakhapatnam and Amaravati would have witnessed development.
On the other hand, he questioned the practicality of large-scale investments in Amaravati, asking whether industries would truly be established in the capital region. Criticizing the financial strain, Sajjala noted that nearly ₹1 lakh crore in debt was already incurred under the name of capital development. He stated that while the central government’s aid is welcome, future planning must avoid wasteful expenditure.
