His father, Shakuni Choudhary, served in the Indian Army as an engineer and later entered politics. He became a six-time MLA from Tarapur and also served as a Member of Parliament. Samrat started his political journey at a young age. Over the years, he worked with different political parties and gained experience in state politics. In 2017, he joined the Bharatiya Janata Party, which marked a major turning point in his political career.
After joining the BJP, his rise in politics became faster. He served as a minister, later became a Member of the Legislative Council, and then Deputy Chief Minister under Nitish Kumar. In 2026, he took oath as the Chief Minister of Bihar, reaching the pinnacle of state politics.
