Sankranti Rush Brings Hyderabad Traffic to a Standstill

Hyderabad witnessed severe traffic congestion on Friday evening as the Sankranti holiday rush triggered a mass exodus from the city. With weekend travel coinciding with the start of the festive holidays, major outbound corridors saw traffic volumes peak, causing long delays for commuters and holidaymakers.

Key stretches such as the Outer Ring Road, Hyderabad–Vijayawada highway, Hyderabad–Warangal road, and routes leading towards Karnataka and Maharashtra experienced bumper-to-bumper traffic. Bus stations, railway stations, and arterial roads connecting residential hubs to highways were particularly crowded as families left for their native places.

Traffic police deployed additional personnel at choke points and activated diversion plans to manage the surge. Despite these measures, slow-moving traffic persisted well into the night. Authorities advised travellers to plan journeys during off-peak hours and follow real-time traffic updates. Traffic is expected to remain heavy over the next two days as Sankranti celebrations continue across Telangana and neighbouring States.
