The Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP) chief Mukesh Sahni surprised everyone by nominating his younger brother, Santosh Sahni, from Gaurabauram in Darbhanga district. Earlier, Mukesh himself was expected to contest, but he chose to let Santosh represent the party. Santosh Sahni Gaurabauram nomination marks a major move for VIP within the Grand Alliance.
Santosh is the national president of VIP, while Mukesh serves as the national convener. VIP has reached a seat-sharing understanding with the Congress and RJD, filing nominations in six of the 13 allotted constituencies. In Gaurabauram, RJD’s Afzal Ali Khan has also filed nomination papers, though VIP expects his withdrawal soon.
Interestingly, in the 2020 election, Swarna Singh won the same seat under the NDA banner. Her husband, Sujit Kumar Singh, a retired officer, now holds the BJP ticket. This seat is turning into a key battlefield for all alliances.
