Satya Nadella Builds AI App to Decode Cricket

Satya Nadella, an avid cricket fan and Microsoft’s chief executive, has used his spare time to code a personal Deep Research AI app designed to study cricket. He created the tool over Thanksgiving and tested it by selecting an all-time Indian Test cricket team.

Nadella said the app generated insights, consensus areas, and reasoning chains that impressed him. He joked that the experience made him want a job on Microsoft’s Copilot team.

His interest in cricket extends beyond hobby projects. Nadella is part of a tech-executive consortium that paid £147 million for a 49 percent stake in the London Spirit, a professional UK cricket team. He also co-owns the Seattle Orcas, a T20 team based near Microsoft’s headquarters.

Nadella is in India this week to meet business and political leaders. During the visit, Microsoft confirmed a $17.5 billion investment in artificial intelligence and cloud infrastructure over the next four years. The company aims to deepen its presence in the world’s most populous market.
