Jyotiraditya Scindia, Union Minister of Communications, chaired a high-level meeting with telecom stakeholders. Neeraj Mittal, Telecom Secretary, joined him. Telecom Service Providers (TSPs) and Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) attended the Advisory Committee session. The group met on Thursday in New Delhi.
Discussions centered on India Mobile Congress (IMC) 2025 preparations. They also covered TSP and OEM issues. Updates included the Telecom Manufacturing Zone (TMZ) in Gwalior. The Telecom Innovation, Research and Training Centre in Jabalpur got attention too.
Scindia noted progress on TSP concerns. Authorities resolved most earlier issues. For example, cyber security improved. Spam control advanced. Standards and technology interoperability strengthened.
Key challenges persist, however. Bridging the digital divide demands focus. Spectrum authorisation needs review. Fixed-line services face viability questions. Stakeholders must submit draft rule responses by October 6, 2025. Telemarketer regulations, license fees, and electricity needs fall under the new Telecom Policy framework.
On the OEM front, Scindia highlighted fixes. Indigenous manufacturing timelines sped up. Testing and certification streamlined. Ease of doing business enhanced. Pending items include cost parity with global peers. A domestic ecosystem for import substitution requires development. Design-led manufacturing needs promotion. Single-source component procurement poses challenges. Policy feedback arrives by October 6, 2025.
Scindia stressed government commitment. Leaders aim to bridge the digital divide. They foster innovation. Indigenous telecom manufacturing strengthens. He urged TSPs and OEMs to collaborate with the Department of Telecommunications (DoT). Actionable feedback must come on time.
Initiatives like IMC 2025, TMZ in Gwalior, and the Jabalpur Innovation Centre matter greatly. They position India as a global telecom hub. This covers technology, services, and manufacturing.
The meeting fits into Stakeholders Advisory Committees (SACs). The Ministry of Communications formed these groups. They enable dialogue among government, industry, and innovators. Inclusive policy-making results.
