Shivesh Ram BJP wins Rajya Sabha election in a dramatic finish during the Bihar polls. Despite trailing early, he secured victory through second preference votes.
In the first round, RJD candidate Amarendra Dhari Singh led by around 700 votes. Shivesh Ram had fewer first preference votes and looked set to lose the fifth seat.
However, the counting moved to second preference votes because no candidate reached the required quota. This changed the outcome completely.
NDA leaders had planned their vote distribution carefully. Most of their MLAs gave second preference votes to Shivesh Ram. This strategy helped him gain additional points and cross the winning mark.
In the final count, Shivesh Ram defeated his rival by about 302 votes.
The result also came after some opposition MLAs stayed absent, which affected the final numbers.
This win helped NDA secure all five Rajya Sabha seats from Bihar.
