A senior BJP leader and chairperson of the Joint Parliamentary Committee said that simultaneous elections are important for India to become a developed nation by 2047. He explained that holding Lok Sabha and State Assembly elections at the same time will reduce costs, save time, and allow governments to focus more on development instead of frequent campaigning.
He said electoral reform is necessary and that simultaneous polls are a matter of national interest, not just a political issue. According to him, this reform is not being pushed by the BJP alone, but is meant to benefit the country as a whole. He added that political parties should set aside their ideologies and differences to support this change.
The committee is examining a Bill on concurrent elections and discussing its legal and practical aspects. The leader stressed that stable governments and fewer disruptions from elections will help India move faster towards its development goals by 2047.
