The Special Investigation Team (SIT) on Thursday took a major step in the probe after SIT serves notice on former CM KCR in phone-tapping case. Officials said the notice seeks his explanation and cooperation in the ongoing investigation.
Sources said the SIT asked K. Chandrashekar Rao to appear before investigators on a specified date. The team wants to question him about decisions taken during his tenure and the alleged misuse of surveillance systems.
The phone-tapping case relates to claims that illegal surveillance targeted political leaders, officials, and private individuals. Investigators believe the operation involved senior officers and required high-level approvals.
The SIT has already questioned several former police officials and seized electronic devices and records. Officials said the evidence collected so far helped them trace the chain of command.
Legal experts said serving notice does not imply guilt. It forms part of the process to gather facts and ensure accountability.
The Bharat Rashtra Samithi has said KCR will cooperate with the probe. Party leaders accused the ruling dispensation of political vendetta.
Investigators said the probe will continue until all facts emerge. SIT serves notice on former CM KCR in phone-tapping case as part of efforts to establish the truth.
