The Siwan ATM robbery has once again raised serious concerns about ATM security in Bihar. On Monday night, thieves targeted a State Bank of India ATM at Tadhi Ghat market under Hussainaganj police station limits in Siwan district.
The Siwan ATM robbery came to light early Tuesday morning when shopkeepers opened their stores. The ATM, located inside the Haji Ghulam Arshad Complex, was found damaged. Cash worth up to ₹27 lakh is suspected to be stolen.
According to initial information, the ATM had ₹27 lakh loaded just two days earlier. The criminals allegedly used a gas cutter to break open the machine and remove the cash quietly during the night.
After receiving information, police reached the spot and began an investigation. Bank officials, the ATM channel manager, and vendor staff also arrived to assess the damage.
CCTV footage from nearby areas is being checked to identify the suspects. Bank staff said they tried to contact the emergency number 112 but did not get a response, which delayed police arrival.
Superintendent of Police Vikram Sihag confirmed the theft and said the exact stolen amount will be known after a full audit.
