Supreme Court gives interim relief to accused in A.P. liquor scam
The Supreme Court has extended interim protection to three accused in the alleged ₹3,500-crore Andhra Pradesh liquor scam. The court allowed the accused to approach the trial court and seek regular bail, while continuing protection from arrest for a limited period.
At the same time, the Supreme Court upheld the High Court’s decision to cancel default bail granted earlier to the accused. The court said that the cancellation was legally valid and did not require interference.
The case involves serious allegations of corruption and misuse of power, with claims that high-ranking officials were involved in the scam. The investigation agencies have accused the persons of causing huge financial loss to the State.
The Supreme Court said that while the investigation must continue without obstruction, the legal rights of the accused should also be protected. It clarified that the interim relief was temporary and subject to further orders. The court emphasized that the trial court should decide the bail pleas independently, based on facts and law.
