The Supreme Court granted Pune Porsche crash bail, allowing Ashpak Basha Makandar to walk free after 20 months in jail. The case involves a May 19, 2024 incident in Pune’s Kalyani Nagar, where a Porsche, driven by a 17-year-old under the influence of alcohol, hit and killed two IT professionals.

Justices BV Nagarathna and Ujjal Bhuyan noted that three co-accused had already received bail. Makandar had allegedly helped swap blood samples of the minors to tamper with evidence. The court released him to maintain parity with the other accused.

Earlier, the Juvenile Justice Board granted bail to the minor driver, which caused public outrage. The minor later went to an observation home and was eventually released by the High Court. Ten other accused, including parents, doctors, and hospital staff, remain in custody for evidence tampering.

The Pune Porsche crash bail shows the Supreme Court’s focus on fairness and equal treatment for co-accused. The court emphasized timely decisions, accountability, and proper legal procedures in high-profile cases.
