The Supreme Court of India has stayed the orders of the Madras High Court that had affected the functioning of the Tamil Nadu Waqf Board. Senior advocate P. Wilson, representing the Waqf Board, told the Court that the January 8 interim order of the High Court had “virtually paralysed” the Board’s activities.

The Waqf Board is responsible for managing properties and funds dedicated to the welfare of the Muslim community in Tamil Nadu. Due to the High Court’s order, the Board was unable to carry out its routine work, including administration and maintenance of properties.

The Supreme Court’s stay allows the Board to resume its normal functioning while the matter is being considered. Officials welcomed the decision, saying it would help in managing the Waqf properties and continuing welfare programs for the community.

The case is expected to be heard in detail by the Supreme Court in the coming weeks.
