Suvendu Adhikari Sworn In as Bengal Chief Minister, BJP Marks Historic Win

Suvendu Adhikari sworn in as Bengal Chief Minister during oath ceremony in Kolkata

Suvendu Adhikari sworn in as Bengal Chief Minister on Saturday, creating history as the first leader from the Bharatiya Janata Party to head the West Bengal government. The oath-taking ceremony took place in Kolkata in the presence of several senior leaders and supporters.

With Suvendu Adhikari sworn in as Bengal Chief Minister, the BJP officially began its first government in the state. The event marked a major political shift after the party secured a strong victory in the 2026 Assembly elections, ending over a decade of Trinamool Congress rule.

Along with Adhikari, several BJP leaders also took oath as ministers in the new cabinet. Leaders such as Dilip Ghosh, Ashok Kirtania, Kshudiram Tudu, Nisith Pramanik and Agnimitra Paul joined the council of ministers.

Political observers say the new government could bring significant changes to the state’s political landscape. The cabinet may expand further in the coming weeks as more ministers are expected to join the administration.
