The Bihar Bus Fare Hike Proposal may soon make travel more expensive for passengers across the state. The transport department has suggested increasing bus ticket prices after nearly five years. If approved, the Bihar Bus Fare Hike Proposal will affect ordinary, deluxe, AC, and premium buses.

Officials have proposed a 10% to 15% increase in fares depending on the travel distance. Short-distance passengers may face a higher percentage increase compared to long-distance travelers. Authorities have invited public objections and suggestions within one month before taking the final decision.

Under the proposal, ordinary bus fares could reach around ₹1.71 per km for up to 50 km, while deluxe buses may charge about ₹1.96 per km. AC buses could cost around ₹2.30 per km, and premium Volvo or similar buses may charge nearly ₹2.88 per km.

For example, travel from Muzaffarpur to Patna may rise from about ₹130 to nearly ₹150 if the proposal takes effect. Daily commuters, students, and workers may feel the biggest impact.

These vehicles will no longer be seen on Bihar road after the state government moved to strictly enforce a High Court order banning unsafe and unregistered vehicles. The transport department has started preparations to remove such vehicles from highways, city roads, and rural routes.

The ban mainly targets “jugaad” vehicles. People often build these makeshift vehicles using diesel pumps, bike parts, and carts. They operate without registration, permits, insurance, or fitness certificates.

Transport officials say these vehicles pose serious risks. They cause frequent accidents, increase air pollution, and disrupt traffic flow. Victims also struggle to get compensation after accidents because these vehicles have no legal status.

District transport officers have received instructions to launch inspection drives. Authorities will seize banned vehicles and take legal action against operators who violate motor vehicle laws.

The government has also appealed to people who depend on these vehicles for income. Officials advised them to shift to legal transport options under government schemes.

Schemes such as the Gram Transport Yojana and Mukhyamantri Transport Scheme offer subsidies to buy approved vehicles. The government says these programs can help drivers earn safely while following the law.

Officials stressed that road safety remains the top priority. These vehicles will no longer be seen on Bihar road, and enforcement will continue across the state.

After the launch of pink buses for women, the Nitish Kumar government is preparing to roll out the Divyang Special Bus service in Bihar. The Divyang Special Bus service will start from Patna and later expand to other districts.

The Transport Department has already begun groundwork for the project. The move aims to support nearly 2.3 million disabled people in the state who face daily travel problems.

Officials said the plan resumed after a request from the Social Welfare Department. Meetings were held to highlight the difficulties disabled passengers face on regular buses, despite reserved seating.

Earlier, tenders were invited for operating these buses, but no bidders came forward. The department is now preparing to issue fresh tenders at the state level.

The Divyang Special Bus service will include wheelchair access, handrails, low-floor seating, audio alerts, and step-free entry. Disabled passengers may also get fare concessions or free travel. A UDID card or valid ID will be required.

Bus stops will also be redesigned for easy boarding and exit. Special focus will be given to the elderly and people with visual, hearing, or mobility impairments.
