The initiatives aim to strengthen infrastructure and accelerate growth across the state. The foundation ceremony took place in Guwahati in the presence of local leaders and officials.

Addressing the gathering, Sarma said the projects align with the vision of making Assam a developed state by 2047. He stressed that strong infrastructure remains the backbone of economic progress. The projects focus on connectivity, health, education, and water supply.

A major highlight includes an ₹85 crore bridge over the Brahmaputra connecting Majuli island. The bridge will reduce travel time and boost tourism. In Kamrup district, a ₹60 crore water supply project will address long-standing water shortages.

The government has also allocated ₹45 crore for education infrastructure. This includes new school buildings and digital laboratories in remote areas. Several rural health centres will receive upgrades to improve medical access.

Local residents welcomed the announcement. Many said the projects would create employment and improve living standards. Sarma stated that thousands of jobs would emerge during construction and operation phases.

The Chief Minister also highlighted the use of green energy and sustainable practices. He confirmed that work would begin immediately. The government aims to complete most projects within two years. Sarma said Assam’s development journey has entered a decisive phase.

The visit will begin on December 20 with the inauguration of the newly constructed Bamboo Orchids Terminal–2 at Guwahati airport, built at a cost of ₹4,000 crore. On the same day, the Prime Minister will unveil an 80-foot-tall statue of Bharat Ratna Dr Gopinath Bordoloi in Guwahati and address a massive public gathering of nearly 70,000 people. He will also visit the newly built Assam BJP state headquarters and hold a brief meeting with party MPs and MLAs.

On December 21, PM Modi will interact with students under the “Pariksha Pe Charcha” programme during a boat ride on the Brahmaputra river. He will then visit the newly built martyr memorial dedicated to 855 martyrs of the Assam Movement at West Boragaon.

Later, the Prime Minister will travel to Dibrugarh and lay the foundation stone of a ₹10,000 crore brownfield ammonia-urea plant at Namrup. The proposed unit, with an annual capacity of 1.2 million metric tonnes, is expected to boost fertiliser availability, generate employment, and strengthen Assam’s industrial ecosystem.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said the state is fully prepared to ensure a smooth and successful visit.

Modi Assam Visit is scheduled for December 20 and 21, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi set to unveil key projects that strengthen Assam’s infrastructure and industrial capacity. The visit underlines the Centre’s continued push for development in the Northeast.

On December 20, Prime Minister Modi will inaugurate the Bamboo Orchids Terminal 2 at Guwahati Airport. The terminal reflects Assam’s cultural identity through its design, inspired by the Kopou flower and local bamboo elements. Built to manage 1.31 crore passengers every year, the new terminal is expected to improve air connectivity and support economic integration across the eight northeastern states.

On December 21, the Prime Minister will travel to Namrup in Dibrugarh district. He will lay the foundation stone for a new brownfield ammonia-urea complex with an investment of around ₹12,000 crore. The project will come up within the existing premises of Brahmaputra Valley Fertilizer Corporation Limited. Officials see the project as a major step toward strengthening Assam’s industrial base and ensuring better fertilizer supply in Northeast and eastern India.

During the visit, Prime Minister Modi will also visit the BJP state headquarters in Guwahati. He will pay tribute to the martyrs of the Assam Movement at the Shaheed Smarak in West Boragaon. The visit carries strong developmental and symbolic significance.

The Telangana High Court is set to hear petitions today from Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) and Minister Harish Rao challenging the Justice Ghosh Commission’s report on the Kaleshwaram irrigation project. Both leaders have requested a stay on the commission’s findings, citing political and administrative concerns. The petitions will be consolidated for the hearing before Justice Kumar Singh.

The Justice Ghosh Commission reviewed the Kaleshwaram project’s operations, finances, and execution. Its report contained several controversial observations and recommendations, prompting KCR and Harish Rao to seek judicial intervention.

Political observers and media are closely monitoring the case, as the court’s decision could significantly affect the ruling Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS). Experts are debating whether the government will receive relief or if the commission’s recommendations will stand.

The hearing is expected to attract widespread attention from stakeholders, policymakers, and citizens invested in Telangana’s irrigation projects. The outcome could influence ongoing administrative decisions and future policy planning for one of the state’s largest infrastructure initiatives.
