The Calcutta High Court has stayed the cancellation of 313 teaching appointments in schools run by the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration. The interim relief was granted on Wednesday by a division bench for a period of 12 weeks.

Earlier, on December 17, a single-judge bench of Justice Biswajit Basu had cancelled the appointments. The court held that the teachers were recruited illegally in GTA-run schools across Darjeeling, Kurseong, and Kalimpong.

Challenging that decision, the GTA moved the division bench comprising Justice Tapabrata Chakraborty and Justice Biswaroop Chowdhury. The matter was heard at the Jalpaiguri Circuit Bench.

While granting the stay, the division bench noted that the single-judge order did not adequately consider key circumstances. The court observed that many teachers had served for long periods. It also noted that regular recruitment remained stalled for years due to prolonged political unrest in the hill regions.

The case stems from allegations that appointments were made without official notifications and outside established recruitment procedures. Earlier, the single-judge bench had ordered a CBI investigation into the matter.

That probe order was later modified after the Supreme Court ruled that the state CID would conduct the investigation instead. The main case on alleged irregular appointments remains pending before the High Court.

Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s strong focus on education received praise from the Telangana Inter Education JAC. The JAC said education alone drives social progress and felt confident that government junior colleges could regain their past strength if these reforms continue. It appreciated the Chief Minister’s personal interest and his regular reviews on academic issues. The JAC requested more support for uniforms, mid-day meals and free bus travel for all Intermediate students next year.

The JAC criticised the former government for ignoring government colleges and allowing private institutions to operate without control. It noted that only 380 junior colleges existed at the formation of Telangana, with fewer than 60,000 students. It added that earlier governments announced free education for SC, ST and BC students but released only limited funds. The JAC said the new administration revived confidence in public education with several strong decisions.

It highlighted the recruitment of 1,300 lecturers through TGPSC and monthly facility maintenance grants for all junior colleges. The government also sanctioned ₹56.16 crore for infrastructure and repairs in 326 colleges. Special funds for lab upgrades and sports equipment improved academic conditions.

The JAC welcomed new systems like CCTV monitoring, online services, QR-coded hall tickets and the first state-wide mega parent-teacher meeting. It said these reforms created transparency and encouraged student support. The JAC also appreciated improvements in exam printing and revaluation systems.

Puducherry has started the process to fill 190 primary teacher posts, bringing hope to candidates waiting for recruitment. Home and Education Minister A. Namassivayam said the government will complete the hiring before December 15. The decision aims to strengthen government schools and improve the quality of education across the Union Territory.

The Minister shared this update after opening a new e-library at Kanchi Mamunivar Government Institute for Postgraduate Studies and Research. He said that better facilities in schools and colleges will support students and help teachers work more effectively.

Along with filling new vacancies, the government will also regularise 292 contract teachers. This step will give these teachers job security and help maintain stability in classrooms. The Minister said that a strong and steady teaching workforce is important for improving learning outcomes.

He also stressed that Puducherry needs better infrastructure, updated resources, and timely recruitment to build a strong academic environment. The government plans to speed up development work in schools and give more support to teachers.

With these measures, Puducherry is preparing for major progress in its education sector. The new recruitment drive is expected to create stronger learning conditions for students and a more reliable system for educators.

He said the state government approved ₹30 lakh for the project, and work on the new building will start shortly. This marks a significant step toward improving facilities at the Khaddar Village School Building Construction site.

Thakur praised the school’s strong performance. The institution achieved 100% results in Class 10 and Class 12 exams last year. He also appreciated local villagers for contributing ₹16 lakh to purchase three bighas of land to support the school’s infrastructure growth.

The minister highlighted the government’s broader efforts to strengthen education across the state. Over the last three years, the government appointed nearly 7,000 regular teachers. Recruitment for over 9,000 additional posts is currently underway, including TGTs, JBTs, lecturers, C&V teachers and NTTs.

Thakur encouraged students and teachers to continue their good work. He also stressed the need for regular school inspections to ensure high standards and accountability.

He added that the government introduced English-medium education from Class 1 to help rural students compete globally. He noted that Himachal Pradesh performed exceptionally well in both ASER and NAS surveys due to these reforms.

As the Bihar Election 2025 draws closer, political activities have gained momentum. Parties like the NDA and Grand Alliance are holding continuous meetings to finalize seat-sharing deals. Amid these talks, a sharp war of words has erupted between Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav.

Tejashwi Yadav accused the NDA government of reducing teacher recruitment posts. He claimed that after the Mahagathbandhan government collapsed, the NDA promised to recruit over ten lakh teachers under the Teacher Recruitment Examination-4 (TRE-4). However, one lakh posts were suddenly cut down.

Tejashwi highlighted his 22-month tenure, saying he recruited over one lakh teachers without any paper leaks under the DD-16 scheme. He criticized Nitish Kumar for failing to keep promises and accused him of confusion in governance.

Meanwhile, Nitish Kumar’s old tweet resurfaced, where he directed the Education Department to speed up the TRE-4 exam and confirmed 35% reservation for women from Bihar.

With both leaders trading accusations, Bihar Election 2025 is shaping into a heated political battle focused on education and employment issues.
