Tamil Nadu’s Winning Formula: The Dravidian Model in Sports Development
Tamil Nadu’s “Dravidian algorithm” in sports governance is yielding visible success. The state has shifted its approach from athletes seeking aid to the government proactively identifying and nurturing talent. Major investments—amounting to nearly ₹1,945 crore—have strengthened sports infrastructure and training facilities across districts.
The government has also expanded opportunities for para-sportspersons, introduced scholarships, and ensured a 3 % job quota for athletes. These initiatives have significantly improved Tamil Nadu’s performance in national and international competitions.
By integrating sports into its broader social justice and empowerment framework, the state aims to make athletics an inclusive avenue for development. This approach, championed by Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin, seeks not only to win medals but also to promote fitness, equality, and pride among youth—bringing the Dravidian model’s welfare focus onto the playing field.
