Telangana politics is witnessing turmoil as ten BRS MLAs , who openly joined Congress after the 2023 Assembly elections , now claim they never defected from their original party . Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar’s handling of their replies has triggered sharp criticism, with many calling it a mockery of the Constitution.
The BRS has approached courts seeking their disqualification, and even the Supreme Court directed a speedy resolution. Yet, eight of the defected legislators recently argued they remain in BRS , citing reasons such as meeting the Chief Minister only for “developmental discussions” or receiving ceremonial shawls as a matter of courtesy. Some even produced photos of KCR in their homes to prove loyalty.
Political observers note that such tactics expose constitutional loopholes and delay justice. With Speaker’s discretion and legal complexities, the matter remains unresolved. Meanwhile, opposition leaders accuse both Congress and BRS of hypocrisy, recalling past “Operation Akarsh” episodes.
