Telangana Issues Alert Over Children’s Medicine Contaminated with Toxic Ethylene Glycol

Telangana health authorities on Friday issued an alert after detecting toxic ethylene glycol in a popular children’s medicine, Almont Kid Syrup, which is commonly prescribed to treat allergy symptoms in children. The Health Department warned parents and caregivers to immediately stop administering the syrup and consult a doctor if any child has already consumed it.
Ethylene glycol, a harmful chemical, can cause serious health issues including kidney damage, neurological problems, and in severe cases, death. The alert was issued to prevent any potential health risks and to ensure the safety of children across the state.
Authorities have directed pharmacies and hospitals to remove the contaminated batch from circulation and report any cases of adverse reactions. The state health department is coordinating with the manufacturer and central drug authorities to investigate the source of contamination and ensure corrective measures.
Parents are advised to carefully check all medications given to children and remain vigilant for any unusual symptoms.
