Telangana to train MBBS students in spoken English to improve patient communication

The Telangana government has announced plans to introduce spoken English training for MBBS students across the state to enhance communication skills among future medical professionals. The initiative aims to ensure that doctors can effectively interact with patients, colleagues, and the wider community, improving overall healthcare delivery.

Health officials said the programme would be implemented in all government medical colleges and affiliated institutions. Special modules will focus on medical terminology, patient interaction, and professional communication, combining classroom sessions with practical exercises. Experts believe that proficiency in spoken English will help students convey diagnoses and treatment plans more clearly, especially in urban and international contexts.

Officials added that the training would be mandatory and integrated into the MBBS curriculum over the coming academic year. The government hopes this step will bridge communication gaps, boost confidence among students, and ultimately enhance patient care standards in Telangana’s healthcare system.
