TN CM Stalin Accuses Centre of Politically Blocking Metro Projects in Coimbatore, Madurai

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has accused the Centre of denying Metro Rail projects for Coimbatore and Madurai on “flimsy grounds,” calling the move politically motivated. Speaking at a public event in Chennai, Stalin criticized the practice of prioritizing BJP-ruled States for Metro projects in smaller Tier II cities while opposition-ruled States like Tamil Nadu are sidelined.
Stalin described this approach as disgraceful and unfair, arguing that it undermines equitable urban development and ignores the pressing transport needs of rapidly growing cities in his State. He highlighted that both Coimbatore and Madurai face severe traffic congestion and require urgent urban mass transit solutions to support economic growth and improve citizen mobility.
The Chief Minister urged the Centre to review its stance and approve the Metro projects promptly, stressing that urban infrastructure development should not be influenced by political considerations. The remarks intensified the ongoing political row over Metro Rail approvals in Tamil Nadu.
