Top Maoist Leader Bandi Prakash Surrenders in Telangana

Maoist leader Bandi Prakash surrenders in Telangana, ending 45 years of underground life and boosting police efforts.

HYDERABAD: The Maoist movement faced another major blow as several senior leaders chose to rejoin mainstream life. The latest is Bandi Prakash alias Prabhat, a top Maoist leader from Telangana, who surrendered before DGP Shivadhar Reddy on Tuesday.

Prakash, a native of Mandamarri in Mancherial district, played a key role in Maoist activities for over four decades. He began his journey in the early 1980s during the “Go to the Villages” movement. Later, he became the president of the Singareni Workers’ Union, which operated under the Maoist wing.

Over the years, Prakash organized several campaigns in the National Park area and remained active in the CPI-Maoist party for nearly 45 years. His leadership influenced multiple generations of activists across Telangana and neighboring states.

Officials said his surrender marks a major success for the Telangana Police’s efforts to encourage Maoist cadre to surrender. His move is expected to inspire other members to give up arms and join peaceful, lawful life.
