In a major development, senior Maoist leader and Central Committee member Potula Kalpana, popularly known as Sujathakka or Mainakka, is reported to have surrendered before Telangana police. Sources indicate that the DGP’s office has scheduled a press conference at 12 noon today to make an official announcement.
Reports suggest that Sujathakka, along with three other Maoists, may be presented before the media during the briefing. Sujathakka, originally from Gadwal, is currently the only woman leader in the Maoist Central Committee. She is also known as the wife of top Maoist commander Mallojula Koteshwara Rao (Kishenji), who was killed in a 2011 encounter in West Bengal.
Until recently, she served as the in-charge of the South Bastar Zonal Bureau in Chhattisgarh. Though earlier reports in 2023 claimed she had been detained in Mahabubnagar, Maoist leaders denied it. Now, all eyes are on the Telangana police for official confirmation of her surrender.
