Tripura new power tariff rates for the financial year 2025–26 have officially come into effect from November, according to the Tripura Electricity Regulatory Commission (TERC). A senior Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL) official confirmed that the revised tariff brings no major changes in electricity bills for any consumer category.
The new tariff covers 10.50 lakh power consumers across the state. As per TSECL, the approved average cost of power supply for 2025–26 is ₹7.61 per kW, slightly higher than last year’s ₹7.56 per kW. Officials stated that the marginal increase ensures financial stability for the power sector without burdening households.
For single-phase domestic consumers, the fixed charge has been revised. The earlier slabs of ₹25 and ₹75 have now been replaced with a uniform ₹16 per kW per month. Meanwhile, commercial consumers will now pay ₹18 per kW per month as a fixed charge.
In an encouraging move aimed at boosting economic activity, TERC introduced a 10% rebate on energy charges for IT industries. Women Self-Help Groups (SHGs) and mobile towers in remote locations will also receive a 10% rebate to support community development and improve connectivity.
TERC has also updated guidelines for the Kutir Jyoti category. The maximum connected load is now raised to 0.5 kW (500 watts), and the permissible monthly consumption limit has been doubled from 15 kWh to 30 kWh. However, consumers who exceed the 30 kWh limit for three consecutive months will be shifted to the regular domestic category.
In addition to tariff changes, the Commission has issued directives to modernize the power sector. These include continued deployment of smart meters to enhance billing accuracy and reduce losses. TSECL has also been instructed to propose a green tariff option, allowing consumers to opt for renewable energy at a premium in future petitions.
