President Donald Trump waited more than 48 hours to address Americans live about the decision to strike Iran. He spoke briefly before a White House event honoring military heroes but declined questions.
Earlier, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Joint Chiefs Chairman Dan Caine briefed reporters at the Pentagon. Over the weekend, Trump released two recorded statements on Truth Social. He also conducted several short phone interviews with journalists.
Critics argued he failed to clearly outline the war’s goals. Former Obama chief of staff Rahm Emanuel said Americans needed stronger leadership. Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu delivered multiple public statements and faced reporters after missile strikes.
New York Times correspondent Peter Baker noted Trump did not deliver an Oval Office address. White House communications director Steven Cheung responded that Trump remained in constant contact with world leaders.
Trump told some reporters the operation would move quickly. In a call with ABC’s Jonathan Karl, he made cryptic remarks about Iran’s leadership. On CNN, Jake Tapper said Trump hinted at further action.
At the Pentagon, Hegseth took questions mainly from conservative outlets, drawing further criticism over media access.
