On September 6, 2025, US President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump welcomed some of the most powerful names in technology to a White House dinner. Among the attendees were Apple’s Tim Cook, Microsoft’s Satya Nadella and Bill Gates, Google’s Sundar Pichai, OpenAI’s Sam Altman, and Meta’s Mark Zuckerberg.

The evening mixed unscripted humour with serious discussions. A memorable moment came when Zuckerberg stumbled over a free speech question, saying, “Sorry, I wasn’t ready.” Trump teased him, laughing, “This is the beginning of your political career,” to which Zuckerberg quickly replied, “No it’s not.”

Trump joked about rumours regarding his health, telling guests, “Well, I’m still here.” He also revealed plans to hold talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin, expressing hope for progress on the Ukraine conflict.

The President shifted to domestic politics by criticizing New York mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani, saying he would “prefer not to have a communist mayor of New York City.”

Bill Gates compared AI’s potential in healthcare to Trump’s Operation Warp Speed vaccine program, while Sundar Pichai voiced relief over Google’s recent antitrust win—prompting Trump to quip, “You had a very good day yesterday.”
