Trump: U.S. Needs Global Talent Amid H‑1B Visa Reforms
Donald Trump said the U.S. must bring in talent from around the world, noting that certain skills are lacking domestically. He emphasized that bringing in skilled workers through visas like H‑1B is necessary to support industries that rely on specialised expertise.
His remarks come amid a major crackdown on the H‑1B visa programme. About 175 investigations have been launched into alleged abuses, including paying low wages, reporting nonexistent work sites, and “benching” employees without work. At the same time, the administration introduced a hefty new fee for H‑1B applicants.
Trump framed these reforms as part of a broader effort to protect American workers while ensuring that the visa programme serves its intended purpose. He stressed that although domestic talent is important, the U.S. economy cannot function efficiently without bringing in specialised professionals from abroad.
