Twelve Arrested in Kadapa for Derogatory Social Media Posts Against Politicians
Police arrested 12 persons in Kadapa district for allegedly posting derogatory and offensive content against political leaders on social media platforms. The arrests were made following complaints that the posts were defamatory, provocative and aimed at disturbing public order.
According to police officials, the accused used fake and anonymous social media accounts to circulate objectionable comments, memes and videos targeting prominent politicians. The activity reportedly intensified in recent weeks, prompting authorities to monitor online platforms closely. Special teams were formed to identify those responsible, leading to the arrests.
Officials said cases were registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Information Technology Act. The police warned that strict action would be taken against anyone misusing social media to spread hate, misinformation or personal abuse.
Senior officers urged the public to exercise restraint and responsibility while expressing opinions online. They also advised social media users to verify information before sharing content and to avoid posts that could incite tension or violate the law.
