UK Universities Get Green Light to Open Campuses in India
In a significant move for India’s higher education landscape, the University of Lancaster and the University of Surrey have received official approval to set up campuses in India. This marks a key milestone under India’s push to internationalize its education system and offer global-standard learning opportunities within the country.
The approvals come as part of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which encourages foreign universities to establish campuses in India to boost accessibility, reduce the need for students to go abroad, and improve academic standards.
Both UK institutions are expected to begin operations in the coming years, with academic programs aligned to international quality benchmarks. The move is likely to benefit thousands of Indian students seeking globally recognized degrees without incurring high overseas costs.
Education experts see this as a step toward positioning India as a global education hub while strengthening India-UK academic ties.
