Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the Union Budget 2026 on Sunday at Kartavya Bhavan. This is the first time in India’s history that the Union Budget has been presented on a Sunday. In her budget speech, she spoke about three important “kartavyas,” or duties, that will guide the government’s work.
The first kartavya is to ensure strong and inclusive economic growth so that all sections of society benefit. The second is to focus on social justice by supporting the poor, middle class, farmers, women, and youth. The third kartavya is to strengthen India’s position globally through innovation, investment, and good governance.
The Finance Minister said the budget aims to build a developed and self-reliant India. She stressed the importance of discipline in spending and long-term planning. Overall, the budget focuses on growth, responsibility, and welfare of the people, while keeping India’s future goals in mind.
