The United States and Iran reported cautious progress in nuclear negotiations held in Geneva on Tuesday. A US official said Tehran will return in two weeks with detailed proposals to narrow remaining gaps. Talks lasted about three and a half hours and were mediated by Oman.

JD Vance said discussions showed promise but stressed that key red lines remain unresolved. Iran earlier described the outcome as a “general agreement” on guiding principles for a possible deal. Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said both sides will draft texts before a third round.

President Donald Trump has warned of airstrikes if talks fail. Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei responded with sharp warnings against military action. Meanwhile, Iran conducted drills near the Strait of Hormuz, a critical oil route. The US deployed a second aircraft carrier to the region.

Oil prices slipped after Iran’s comments, with West Texas Intermediate falling below $63 a barrel. Analysts said markets expect limited disruption unless exports are blocked. A successful deal could ease sanctions on Iran’s oil sector and reduce tensions across the Middle East.
