In the Bihar Election 2025, former MP Veena Devi, wife of strongman Suraj Bhan Singh, has filed her nomination from the Mokama Assembly seat on an RJD ticket. She was earlier an MP from Nawada. Veena Devi’s nomination marks her return to active politics with the support of RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav.
Her main opponent is Anant Singh, JDU’s powerful five-time MLA from Mokama. After being released on bail in all cases, Anant Singh has re-entered the political fray. In 2022, his wife Neelam Devi had won the seat, but she later joined JDU during Nitish Kumar’s floor test in 2024.
This Bihar Election 2025 battle is special — it revives a 25-year-old rivalry. Back in 2000, Suraj Bhan had defeated Anant Singh’s brother Dilip Singh by a huge margin. Both families have remained political powerhouses in Mokama ever since.
Now, the RJD-JDU contest between Veena Devi and Anant Singh is drawing massive attention. With Suraj Bhan switching from RLJP to RJD and leading his wife’s campaign, Mokama has once again become the centre of Bihar’s political storm.
