David Beckham, global football legend and UNESCO’s Ambassador for Education, visited the MJPAPBCWREIS residential school in Kothavalasa, Visakhapatnam, inspiring hundreds of students on Wednesday. The visit was part of UNESCO’s Education for All campaign, aimed at improving access to quality learning across underserved communities.
Beckham began his day by joining a project-based learning (PBL) session, where students demonstrated analytical thinking, teamwork, and problem-solving skills. He interacted warmly with children, patiently listening as they explained their projects in Mathematics, Science, and other subjects. A mini-exhibition set up by the students showcased their creativity, which visibly impressed the football icon.
A video from the visit showed Beckham strolling through classrooms, laughing with students, and later — stepping onto the school ground for a casual football session with young girls, drawing loud cheers with every pass.
The interaction extended beyond academics. Beckham participated in a tree-planting activity, learning how each sapling is tagged with a digital ID to track its growth. He also joined a reading cycle in the library, discussing books and dreams with enthusiastic children.
Calling it a “really, really good day,” Beckham praised the students’ confidence, energy, and curiosity. This marks his second India visit after his 2023 UNICEF engagement.
