Kapurthala Firing Extortion Threat has again shaken the city after gunshots rang out late at night. The incident has renewed fear among traders, as extortion attempts continue to target big businesses.
According to information, unidentified assailants opened fire around 1:30 am. They targeted the private warehouse of a major wholesale grocery trader on Sultanpur Lodhi Road. The attackers fired five rounds during the incident. Two bullets hit the main gate, while three struck the shutter.
The sudden firing caused panic across the area. Residents reported hearing loud gunshots and rushed indoors. No injuries were reported, but the attack left visible damage to the property.
Shortly after the firing, the trader received a WhatsApp call from a foreign number. The caller demanded lakhs of rupees as ransom. The caller also issued threats of further harm if the demand was not met.
The trader immediately informed the police. Senior police officers reached the spot and began an investigation. Teams are scanning CCTV footage from nearby locations to identify the attackers and trace their movements.
Police have started the process of registering a case against unknown persons. Officials said they are treating the matter seriously. Repeated firing incidents have raised strong concerns about the safety of traders in Kapurthala.
